Essential Reading and Writing Skills

The Essential Reading and Writing Skills course (8820304360) is a foundational 4-credit course designed for students in the English Education Study Program to develop essential reading comprehension and paragraph-level writing skills in English. The course integrates reading strategies, vocabulary development, and guided writing through short descriptive and narrative texts. Students learn to identify main ideas, supporting details, specific information, and relevant information from texts, and use these ideas to develop clear and coherent descriptive and narrative paragraphs. Learning activities include guided reading, vocabulary practice, collaborative discussions, writing practice, peer review, and revision. The course provides a foundation for students to develop literacy skills for further academic study and their future professional practice as English language educators, supporting SDG 4: Quality Education.
