Introduction to Literature is a foundational course that introduces students to literary genres—prose, poetry, and drama—and their intrinsic elements. The course aims to develop students’ ability to read, interpret, and analyze literary texts as meaningful resources for understanding language use, meaning, and context.
Through case-based learning and guided textual analysis, students explore selected literary works using basic literary approaches and introductory applied linguistic perspectives. The course also encourages students to reflect on the educational values of literature and its relevance to English language learning from national and global perspectives. By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate conceptual understanding, analytical reading skills, and reflective awareness, which serve as a foundation for more advanced courses such as ELT in Literature.
