This course introduces students to the study of literature as a form of art and human expression. It provides a basic understanding of the three major literary genres—prose, poetry, and drama—along with their inherent elements, literary theories, and critical approaches. Through close reading, discussion, and analysis, students develop the ability to appreciate, interpret, and evaluate literary works from both global and Indonesian contexts. As a foundation course, it also fosters students’ critical thinking, language competence, and cultural awareness, preparing them for more advanced applications of literature in English Language Teaching (ELT) in the following semester.
